Gudi Padwa Festival

In the state of Maharashtra, Gudi Padwa is one of the most celebrated festivals. It is also known as Padva or Parva. For the Marathi and Konkani Hindus this day marks the new year as per the luni-solar calendar. It falls on the first day of the Chaitra Month (March-April). Ideally the day welcomes the new month and the spring that is associated with agriculture. The main highlights of the festival are Gudhi, Rangoli preparations and cultural processions. The festival has various names as per the culture like its known as Gudi Padwa in Marathi, Yugadi in Kannada and Ugadi in Telgu. The local hindus in the Konkan region of Maharashtra call this festival as Samsara Paadavo. The Sindhi community celebrates this festival as Cheti Chand as on this day Lord Jhulelal or the Esht Dev of the community had appeared. This year Gudi Padwa will be celebrated on 25th march, 2020.
